Christmas 2014

Christmas this year was richness itself! We dined on lamb, pork, salad, mashed potatoes, yams and homemade marshmallows, and eight pies, chocolate and pumpkin at Grandma's house, and had gifts which came upon us! It was really nice. At home we awoke at six a.m. and Dad rung his new cowbell, the signal for stockings.

On Christmas eve after Vigil Mass, we listened to Handles Messiah, and had cookies and popcorn. In the stockings, I received deodorant, the boys all got yo-yo's which now are the fad here, and Able and Essie were happy with a crazy elf with purple hair and watercolors

It was beautiful and everyone was shouting, "Oh, look at this! "Oooo!" After this excitment, Papa showed s upstairs, and as he does every year, he said, "Now look at this-Look how good Jesus is to us, I can't believe how many presents..." We opened them all that morning, and had breakfast of chocolate pumpkin muffins and bacon which got on some of the packages. I crocheted Eph's little monk, Father Lionel, that he got last year, a festive hat with a plume.

My favorite home gift was a nutcracker from Eph and Zac which I christened, Krisnut, and I dance with him every night before bed. He is like me and Essie's mascot, and stands to attention on the bookcase. Mass was beautiful too, Eph and Clem served and did a very good job, and we looked at the creche. It was a beautiful Christmas, and when I looked at the babe in the manger I thought, "Jesus only had three gifts, and look at us, we are rich and full with good things. Jesus, let us always remember, you are the reason for the season!" I want to thank Grandma for the gifts, especially a bluebird, covered with family buttons, Thank you!

Christmas Eve Tidings

Advent is over and christmas is upon us already! As a family we have learned so much this Advent. Family enrichment, bible facts, Christmas carols, and finger-knitting. Alright, finger-knitting! It is complicated for little ones to knit and crochet with the needles and hooks, and using your hands you can make beautiful and kind gifts. It's an awesome way to use an afternoon. Christmas is a Time of Families It can just be the every night pilgrimage to the Advent wreath, a bible reading for the Jesse tree, or saying the rosary. We have biblical discussions with Dad while eating popcorn, and learn so much from Mom about housekeeping and christmas cookie tips. This year we decided to have a christmas cookie exchange with just two other small families. We had it yesterday and the results were delicious. Christmas is a Time of Unity Me and my younger siblings play a game with our toys called, Toyland. Every year on Christmas eve they have a Christmas Party, which leads to a cleanup, but is very enjoyable and fun. Finger-knitting in the room and talking, swapping ideas and having conversations is another way we bind together as the Dauvin children. We have snuggles with Mom and Dad, be kitchen-helpers, and have a fun time together just using our talents and love. Christmas is a Time of Giving This year we went christmas shopping at Goodwill. It is so much fun giving, much better than receiving and being selfish. We also made our christmas presents too, Infinity scarfs, bookmarks, blowgun targets, etc. Its a lot of fun! Christmas is a Time for Decorating. We put up our Christmas tree on the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we've found a few more ornaments than we had last year. Since our kitchen window is facing the highway and we needed to use our garland, Mom put it up on the window and it looks cheery and cozy. We put up our Russian creche, our Jesse tree, and outside we have a glow-in-the dark nativity set that won't work due to the rain and dull lightbulbs. In the girls bedroom, I put up chinese lanterns, and on my bookshelf, my old snowglobe, and an apple scented candle. Keep Christ in Christmas! Christmas is not about the christmas lights, the brassy carols, the presents and the rainbow colored candycanes, its about Christ's birth. Celebrate!
Sister Fun:Me and Essie made these for the Christmas Cookie Exchange. WE are a good team!
Here is my finger knit cup warmer. It was really fun to make!

Advent: No Internet

For Advent this year we aren't going to have any internet or TV. So this is going to be my last blogpost until after Christmas. So its a little different than last year. So this should be an ultimate, counting-for-months post. I mean, until Christmas we won't be at the screen. So I am going to include a few things which will be happening this blessed week! Tomorrow, family is coming, on Wednesday, friends are coming, Thanksgiving going to be such a blast, and the weekend full of partying! When you have a large house, you can't help giving a few get-to-gethers. (I think is would be great if we had a hoe-down, like a barn dance.) Oh, Dad already found the perfect christmas tree. He was driving home when he saw a large christmas tree on the road. Its beautiful and I want to bury my nose in its boughs. On Dec 31st I am getting an operation on my gums, so please keep that intention in your prayers. I'm really nervous. I really hope your holidays will be splendid as we get together for another christmas and New Year. I will pray that you each have a marvelous time with your families! God Bless You!

Our Thankful Jam

This Thanksgiving is going to be a multi-event for our family this year! Head count in the twenties, and family coming from all around Oregon. So this year, I didn't have much time to do a hand turkey, or the cloved orange, but before we were settled into the month of November, I found this really great family craft in a magazine. Make a thankful jar. All it is is decorate a jam jar, and place it on the counter with a notepad and a pen. When ever a family member thinks of something to be thankful for, they scribble it down and place it in the jar. On Thanksgiving, the Dad with pass the jar around where everyone will read the "thankfulness", and it will get us in the mood to add little bits here and there. (It also helps with handwriting practice:)
Me and Essie made this thankful Jar together. Talk about sister time!

A Living Rosary, or Sermon

I really love reading biographies. To read about people like ourselves become people of inspiration and wonder is one of the greatest joys of being able to read literature. I was reading Pauline Jaricots biography, and it occurred to me that in Oregon, do we have a Living Rosary society? To live the rosary, men and woman formed a group, The Living Rosary. Members would be assigned for a mystery in which they would pray daily. I do think that would be such a wonderful thing to found now, especially for the remission of sins, and for Iraq. Out of one rosary, we could save so many souls! How is it that such a thing as a Living Rosary isn't found in Oregon. We really should be ashamed. We have so many great examples as Pauline Jaricot, Fulton Sheen, St. John Paul II, we should be overjoyed and start right now! For children, we can devote ourselves to saying one decade each night for the bitter war in Iraq and for other intentions which are so dear to our hearts. Another great thing is, WE are never to late to start praying. In fact we are right on time! A family rosary grants each member a plenary indulgence if you say it with meaning in your heart. That is a condolence. We usually use our indulgences to free the soul who has been in Purgatory the longest. (Not that we are a perfect family though.) So as a family, and as friends, why don't we start saying a living rosary, every week? Lets try once and see how we do. Maybe with all of our fervent prayers, we can set Iraq free from the miserable invading. One meaningful Hail Mary means a lot to God.

Goodness, Llama's?

I haven't really told you about how the farms going...as we are sprouting into farmers already. We had a last harvest of apples. We are going to be pruning, and hoping to get a better harvest next year. Oh, we planted eight little trees, cherries and pears which will be giving fruit in three years if they last. And our livestock is as it should be. But I've saved the real news for last! We're going to get a family of llama's. I can hear a pin drop in the background. Its very exciting! Once we went to an apalca farm somewhere in the countryside of Amity,(I love alpacas) and we actually saw a pregnant mother give birth. When it was 'out' finally, and after being rubbed on a towel it began to walk, and it was one of the cutest animal. We all named it Dawn. Life is such an amazing thing. But back to the Llama's, your feet are probably shifting from the other in suspense. When are they coming? What do they look like? The answer is Thursday, and I'm thinking of a white dad, and maybe a brownish red for mama and baby. (I'll have to post a picture when the camera finally connects to the iMac.)
This is an unshorn alpaca. They are shorter than Llama's, and their hair is more luxirant and made into yarns. Alpaca hair is super soft and there is a market for pillows and shawls in Peru, or for the animals themselves.
Here is a llama. See the difference? I think the Alpaca's are much sweeter. Actually, Llama's can die of a broken heart if they are alone so a pack option can be sheep. Llama's are very social, so hopefully Moon will be with them, and give them extra company.

We, Who by the Grace of God...

We, who by the grace of God are Catholics… must steel ourselves for the battle we shall certainly have to fight to fulfill our program and give our country, in the not too distant future, happier days and a morally healthy society, but to achieve this we need constant prayer to obtain from God that grace without which all our efforts are useless; organization and discipline to be ready for action at the right time; and finally, the sacrifice of our passion and of ourselves, because without that we cannot achieve our aim.” Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, Turin, Italy, 1922 (1901-1925)

Happy Hallow's Eve & Pumpkins

I really wanted to share with you on our little All Saint's Day props which we used at a homeschool co-op party today. Hetty was St. Clare of Assisi, I was Blessed Pier G. Frassati, Clem was Miguel Pro, Zac was St. Sebastian(for two years), Ephrem was St. Mark, and Abe was supposed to be one of our props but he declined.

St. Clare: She wore a little indian like shirt, a little ragged at the edges, and then to say she was wealthy, a purple silk tunic was placed over is and removed when that clue was given. We had a candlestick, and we cut out yellow paper and a white host, which were glued together, there was a little hole-tube like opening where the candle was stuck.

St. Mark: I drew a little winged lion out of paper to be pinned on his cloak, but then we had another idea of cutting a T-shirt to look like a lion's mane. Abe was going to be the lion, but his refusal is another story. WE also heard of pinning a lion puppet to the cloak but our toy store is not satisfactory.

St. Sebastion: WE had a red cape which fit Zac after a little sewing, He had a hunting arrow cut in half, and stuck in foam, which was under the red mantel. It was convincing. Last year we had two arrows stuck in his belt. Miguel Pro: Clem wore suit pants, a plaid shirt or a navy blue T-shirt. Very simple.

Pier Frassati: I just decided that I would like to be a boy this year. I wore a fur coat, and pants, Dad lent me his pipe, and I had a leather bag for tobacco and any provisions. Under my coat was a mans scarf which concealed my shirt, and neck. It was a big success!
Pumpkins! We had a lot of fun! After we celebrated with carrot muffins and a warm fire.

What it Means to be Full of Zeal as We Pray An Article By Avila D.

When we as Catholics, Byzantine Catholics, etc think of the meaning of zeal and how we can improve, God is hopeful that his pampered children, who have a spoiled outlook on life finally be full of eagerness to be a better christian and pray zealously. When you enter a church, are you full of zeal to get down and pray? Or is it just the instinct you feel that it is right to kneeel just as the other adorers? Or are our prayers hurried and little meaning is put in them? God looks down on the zealous of heart with deep, wounding love. That is, if we pray with Zeal, eagerness in our hearts. If we are wanting to pray, we are lifted higher from the pit of purgatory. God recognizes a meaningful prayer than a flurried, "Amen" tagged on after a quick petition. As a Catholic daughter of Christ, I am not the perfect modal of a zealous person. I have noticed that my posture on the kneeler can be a bit droopy, even bored, and I recognize the fact that I have to change. I am going to practice what I preach. Ahem. As we enter the church(this is your spiritual homework.)we are going to make a reverent genuflect or bow, enter the pew, and kneel down modestly. If it helps, you can bring a rosary in with you, but just spend at least five minutes in deep prayer. Jesus said if we pray a Hail Mary, a Glory Be every day for three years , we will not suffer the fire of purgatory, and our generations until the forth will be with us in heaven when they die. Isn't that worth being full of Zeal for?

As a bird lover(And a blessings counter)

Oh to be a bird! was my reaction as numerous sparrows flew from the treetops. It was a windy Saturday. I'm sure all of Salem and Turner were watching as the leaves swirled thru the air. It was such a blustery day. All the boys ran out over the fields, yelling like crazy, while my and Hetty ran in circles enjoying the gusts. Our hair whipped our faces quite cruelly, and so we took shelter of the garage where Dad was working. It would be pretty strange to have all the people in the world, have wings and beaks, and fly about, pecking on each other as they are doing now throughout the world. It was just a thought. When I was seven I spun a little romance about a bluebird, who married a bluebird. Altogether it was five chapter's long, and he had just met her when they suddenly got engaged and had three birdies of their own. It is a deep regret that that story is lost in time. Hopefully we will see it when we reach heaven, since I'm sure God keeps all the little memories, of my typing my funny novel into the computer, of me reading it under the cherry tree on 63rd street, and of my hard earnest work as I put together the engagement. I wish I could live those days again. Growing up as a 12 year old can be a bit dramatizing, and difficult, especially at this time.
I found this lovely button on etsy. I thought it would be just perfect for this blog as a logo. Its taken years to find the right one, hasn't it. But unfortunately my blogger skills are limited, and I really must have an experienced blogger help me fit this in. But I do love it! Its so cute and it fits my lifestyle perfectly. We're pretty simple. We have cable but we only watch TBN or EWTN, We are trying to at least have four outfits, and simplifying our toy supply since the move. But we are the luckiest kids in the world! We have a huge farm, ten acres, we have a cow, Moon, we have a sweet Yorkshire/Rat terrier, Karol, and a princely cat called Marvin, and twenty-nine chicks. Life here is based on counting your blessings.

Vatican Prayer Intentions

We pray for the decisions of Pope Francis regarding marriages and family life. For the political elections in November, that the right is chosen. For Abortion clinics, that they might see the wrong they are doing in destroying the future presidents and our own kind. And for all the intentions of the worlds today. Please feel free to add anything in your comments-Avi

Asian Artistic

After I turned ten I started having this bond with the Japanese look. I loved the book, Miss Happiness and Miss Flower, and Little Plum by Rumer Godden. I like dancing on the stage with a parasol, as I have done in two nutcrackers. Origami is a lot of fun too! I love the way in the books by Demi the way it is illustrated, and I am fond of the Japanese lanterns, dolls, and paintings. It sounds funny that a French Canadian would be so fond of Asia. I myself don't know how it came, but it suddenly just happened. We have an art appreciation 'class' which we do on a great program called Anki which most teacher's use. I downloaded a few painting which I thought would look so nice on my blog,my "Online diary," here they are, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
The last one is an old man on a walk which quite attracted Clem. It is very sweet. I first really wanted to post the top one since it is so small, and amazing, the artist, Zhang Zeduan really knew how Japan must of looked.(It is also his most famous painting) It is like a riverside party, don't you think? The last one is my favorite though, of all the three I have just pictured,
It is of a little girl and boy playing together in the garden. It is simple, and yet, so true and...innocent to the world beyond. Thank you for being so patient as I described these paintings which you yourself can describe to yourself. We have eyes for that reason to enjoy Gods beauty of the universe. I don't have the other two artist's names down, but I'm sure they will except all the credit. I only have credit for posting the paintings. -Avi P.S. I really am posting Japanese things like crazy. Don't worry, the next post won't have this subject...hopefully!

Crisp October...

October is one of the coziest months, isn't it? The crumple of leaves, the end of harvest, chestnut picking, spicy storage rooms, which here are know as cellars, after reading Brambly Hedge. Me and Hetty had made a craft of tracing our hands, making leave rubbings, and pasting them on our hands to make trees. We also made a ladybug story, upon Hetty's suggestion, and now that is taped to the window for all to admire. What is it with ladybugs and little girls? Oh, on Pin It yesterday, me and Mom were looking for ideas, we saw a really great idea for brownies. So they are normal cake brownies, and then you melt marshmallows on the top surface, and they make little ghost treats. We don't do Halloween any more, but it still is such a fun idea. I also like how they make felted pumpkins and foxes, hedgehogs, and fall things like that. I just love hedgehogs. They seem so neighborly and kind. I wish we had a hedgehog host around the farm. Even if you could hardly stop yourself from scaring them. My bringing up was spent on the couch in Canada, reading Beatrix Potter books, so that probably explains my profound admiration for little creatures. One indian summer, when I was seven I rescued worms from burning pavement, and we always have animal tree's where we bury our lost pets when the time comes. I can't even stand it when our cat, Marvin brings home a small fowl in his mouth. Ahh! But anyway, me and Abe will read baby animal books by the hour, and we also find good leaves for rubbings. Rubbings are great for nature study, allowing you to see almost every detail. I am not the realistic artist, my brother is, but to see a perfect leaf on paper is a joy to see. I just wanted to have a chatty post, it really didn't have any point, but I am as one would say, a friendly, chatty 'hedgeie'.

38,12,4

Before Hetty's 4th Birthday. It was a really big party, so many fans came to wish our glamorous Princess a happy b-day. The theme was Polka-Dots;) How is that for a party? We decorated the party room with paper dots, we made forts, pizza, played Polka-dot-pass, it was a birthday to remember.

William Shakespeare of Stratford-On-Avon; An Essay

The Shakespeare that is known today was an author, (what we call a playwright. )of many dramatic plays and works, such as Romeo and Juliet, Two Gentleman of Verona, The Tempest, and many others. Shakespeare was born on Henley Street, Stratford in England in the year 1564. His father, John Shakespeare was a prosperous glover, who made leather gloves, and also sold wool and barley. John was also one of Stratford’s leading men and was elected to City Council, and became a bailiff, or Mayor of Stratford. But he was then voted down because of a debt he had not paid. Shakespeare went to ‘petty school’ when he was four(A private school for boys and girls). The purpose of going to school in those days was to learn Latin. At that time, one needed to know Latin to be able to go to the University in order to follow a career of either politics, medicine, teaching, law, or Clergy. William Shakespeare in “As You Like It,” wrote, “And then the whining schoolboy, With his satchel, and shining morning face, creeping like a snail unwillingly to school.” William Shakespeare at age eighteen, married Anne Hathaway who was eight years older than her husband. They were married in 1582. Shortly after, Anne gave birth to Susanna Shakespeare, and finally twins. Now William had a wife and three little children to provide for. Shakespeare bought a large, and expensive house in Stratford in 1597. This gave his wife and children a home, and also proved he had cleared his father’s debt which brought a calm over the family. His father’s business was not going well, and he needed to earn a living. THis might have been the reason why he left Stratford for London. In 1592 he started writing plays in London, touring theater companies, and finding his career. Shakespeare is thought to have been an actor, but at this he was not as successful as his plays were. Some people thought that the play’s were written by his rival, Christopher Marlo who was murdered. But this we know is not true for why have the plays come down to us all in Shakespeare's name? In 1599 Shakespeare’s plays took off, and were acted at the Globe Theater which was an extreme honor. Along with many member’s of his theater company, The Chamberlin’s Men, Shakespeare owned a share in the Globe’s profits, which gave him a lot of money. He died in 1616, at the age of fifty-two. Religion in the 16th century was a discussion which caused a lot of disagreements, fights, and even torturing. Protestant's and Catholic’s bumped heads and it took a long time for it to settle down. The Puritan’s disapproved of Shakespeare's works as they had character’s who murdered, sought love, and were poisoned. In this way the Puritans were sensible. Most of Shakespeare's works were filled with bloody duels, and sadness. But it is this which is the cause of all the crowds which came from far and wide to see the famous playwright come out on stage and bow. So from then on he was a famous playwright in London. He wrote poetry as well which brought wonderment from all. Truly he was no ordinary man! We know that he probably didn’t leave Anne and his children without a provider because in his will he left her his second best bed. But what happened to her, I have not found out yet. He has invented over two thousand words, that had some insults that included, boot-licker and hogs-head. He brought enjoyment, sadness, drama, excitement, to all the world today. As Shakespeare has said, “All the Worlds a stage, and the men and woman merely players...”
A map of England. For homework we were to freelance the map and then color it, outlining the river thames with utmost respect. We are studying Shakespeare this year, we haven't really taken it seriously since this year, and so we are really exited with all the information we have picked up. Our favorite play so far has been Much Ado about Nothing, I love The Winter's Tale,And Twelfth Night is an absolute favorite

little acorns to great oaks

Dad has cut down two trees, which lets the sunlight into the house with such enthusiasm, that we are awake at dawn. Our grapes are nearly done, so are our pears. We have little good apples left, and the harvest is almost done. We have planted a little herb garden with chives and stevia, we are loaded with balls and bats, gloves and wiffle balls that now we are going to start gym class to burn more calories. The farming society may now commence! I love the phrase, 'Great Oaks from little acorns grow,' right now we are little acorns, and we are settling our roots in firm ground. How is that for prose!

We have also had Broccoli soup which is a favorite, Chicken and Dumpling's,and today Mom is making an egg omelette for brunch. There is no end of creativity in the kitchen nowadays. We are often referring the kitchen as, Napoleon Robarge Buffet, which is after our great, great, great Grandfather on our Dad's side. And whenever The meal is brought to the table, Eph will say, "Napoleon serve's the Best Food!" We're quite a family.

The Permissions of Ann Sayre Wiseman

Probably my favorite craft book is The Best of Making Things By Ann Sayre Wiseman. The best 125 projects in the universe. All I really want to do is copy down her Permissions that you must use while looking at this book. I think they are awesome, fun, and full of wisdom that is mostly seen in a child. It's OK to try something New. It's OK to make mistakes. You will learn a lot from them. It's OK to take risks. It's OK to take your time. It's OK to find your own pace. It's OK to try it your way(first, and then other ways). It's OK to fail. You can try again free of fear. It's Ok to look foolish. It's OK to be different. It's OK to wait until you feel ready. It's OK to experiment in safety. It's OK to question the "shoulds". It's special to be you. It is necessary to make a mess which you are willing to clean up. The act of creation is often messy. I love that word, The Act Of Creation. God used the Act of Creation to create the world. We use the Act of Creation while cooking, or drawing, at work, or at play. NO matter how often you watch TV, or look bored, creation is always around you.
Dyeing is also mentioned in book. When you dye clothes, make tie-dye shirts at school, you are creating something. It is an ancient art, probaly found out by the nomads as they picked berries and found their hands a purple berry color. Natural dyes may come from your own backyard. Berries. Fruits. Flowers. Leaves. Stems. Weeds. Pods. Skins. Nuts. Roots. Animals. Fish. Insects. Stone Powders. Madder Root makes a turkey red Ripe Walnut Shells make brown(Soak for 2 days)Dahlias make warm browns. Nettles, a Yellowish-green. But I suppose you will have to see how many colors you have on hand. Crush berries and soak roots. We are all still learning!

Last-Minute Birthdays

Its my best friend's birthday tomorrow! Its too late to go to the store...what will I do! These might be some questions that race thru your mind when you look at the calendar proclaiming the events you didn't know about.(This is an example) Its September, its really busy, School takes up your time, what will you do? Grab a pack of rubber bands. Colored ones are encouraged but plain brown ones look really neat when woven together. Get a simple crochet hook, and if you don't have C or S clips use a paper clip. Weaving rubber band bracelets together is an easy and resourceful craft that is altogether a meaningful gift if you have made it yourself, despite any mistakes.
IN this bracelet I wove to rubber bands together at the same time, making it harder, and square which looks really good if you mix and match the colors. Do you see how to do it? It may look hard but it is so easy and fun you can whip a gift in minutes. You can also try a ring, a flower, brooches, just go rubber 'bandz'! By the way, my 5th anniversary is this month... five years of updating this blog! (Amazing) The 29th is the Aniv. Thanks for being the awesome mutual friends I love!

Sept. 2nd

Here are the results of farm life and harvest. You can't get these specimens at the grocery store.
The picking was awesome today! We are almost finished with the plums, and the grapes, though on the tart-ish side are flourishing excellently. The pears also are softening. The orchard is overgrown but is a perfect place for retreat. There are at least seven apple trees, two pear, and three grape vines which are twined around the wire fence in a beautiful 'bowery' array.
We are in the farmer mode of mind and really are quite proud of our thistle-bombarded fields, over-grown orchards, and the hilly ground. God's creation is wonderful, isn't it? I submitted my poem, "Life Treasured"(which is posted on this blog somewhere)to the Oregon State Fair poetry contest, and after waiting to see the dreaded form, "Thank-you for participating in the Oregon State Fair..."Grandma texted us with a picture of my poem with the red ribbon! Second Place In State! I still can't believe it. I can't wait to see it on the wall of my room. I think I am going to songify the poem, it deserves something for catching the judge's eye. Don't you think?

Precious Moments

Esther has now gotten into Precious Moments coloring pages. When it is raining, Mom will go to the iMac and print out a few. We gave Grandma a ballerina one in the mail. There are sometimes when you really need to sit down and color. I love it! p.s remember to stay within the lines!:()

Dreamy Tuesday

On a dreamy Tuesday in August, this week, we had our first full day at our beautiful new house, on Val View Dr. in T. I spent a wonderful night on the mattress, dreaming of things yet to come in the new house. I had set up my room on Sunday, and when we first came into my room(My Room!)the homey atmosphere was lovely. I now had a rug by my bed, two lamps since the lighting was dim, and a "Provision" room where I shall store all the things that I need for some unexpected emergencies. I have a string of tiny lanterns draped over my dollhouse/bookshelf. I have no curtains till we unpack them, but since the window is right next to the most romantic plum tree ever, I shall always have it uncovered, for the morning sun shines thru it and I wake up with a smile on my face, and a song on my lips. I have taken to reading scripture again, and St. Teresa Of Avila's autobiography. I have finished The Enchanted April, and also, Heaven to Betsy, so now I am going to tighten my belt and begin reading advanced works, like Byron, and Pope, St. Teresa Of Avila(again), and other books in our massive collection. In the library/prayer room, we have a bookshelf up to the ceiling loaded with our dear books we could not part with. I also have a little oak bookshelf in my room full of novels, my diary, and Saints. The House itself in on 9.7 acres, and we have called the acreage, The Promise Land. Isn't it fitting? We have grapes, plums, apples, blackberries, and so we have called it fittingly. We have roses, and a blooming butterfly bush full of white, and purple blooms. Our roses are uncovering their beauty and so we have our late roses showing their faces. Two wasps are building their nest in the mailbox, poor mailman! We did have a wasp in the dinner bell outside, but Clem rang it so much that the nest fell out, and the wasp kept vigil for a few days and then flew off. We have a "hide-away" tree, thats leaves go down to the ground and so we are in a little cave made out of fragile leaves which only the fairies can come. In the fields we have an old tire swing that I don't trust, but near it is a faery swing that lifts you off your feet and you feel so light its like a dream! We have a beautiful view of Mt. Jefferson, and in the mornings, since we are facing the east, the sun floods the kitchen and living room with glory that even Aslan couldn't compare with. The farm is called Twin Angels Farm, isn't that 'dramatically romantic'? The downstairs has a kitchen and storage area where there are winter supplies and 'stuff'. (This should definitely be one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon!) Hope you can visit sometime. Avi

I Don't Want To Live in The White House

I have often thought that living in the white house must have been really exciting, even daring with the large spacey rooms and all the parties, and balls they must have. But now I find that if you're the president(especially Obama)you must lead a pretty horrible life. 1. You can't drive your car without a body guard or, chauffeur. 2. You have to make people love you, so as you can get the most votes for elections, and petitions. 3. If it were a bad hair day for you, the radios and news would be agog about it. 4. If you got out on the wrong side of the bed, you could make severely bad laws. (Like, Don't Ever Be Creative!) 5. Who really wants to be the boss of the United States, and be pampered with about a million dollars? I think I'll go for Canadian Prime Minister instead.

August's Almonds

1 cup of whole almonds. 1/2 cups of sugar, stevia might work. 2 table spoons of butter 1/2 table spoons of vanilla extract Heat the almonds, sugar and butter in a small frying pan. Stir constantly until the almonds are perfectly toasted and the sugar is a golden brown. This should take about fifteen minutes exactly. Stir in the vanilla extract, and spread on a sheet of tin foil and let it cool. Break into clusters and serve. This is a really great add-in to a party as a favor, and just for fun. I would think putting it in the fridge for about 20 minutes should make it a summer treat to really remember and do it next time the kitchen feels deserted.

Catholic&Cat

I haven't done a really truly spiritual blogpost in such a long time, ever since one on my experiences of my 1st Holy Communion(on May 3rd's post). And so I am going to share with you today of some of some of my experiences during the Mass and other places with God and a bit of Catechism, which probably you already know, but I'll just put it in my own words. One summer a priest came with a lot of relics to show and heal. He gave a lovely talk on the Saint's relics and how some people were healed from either kissing our touching the relic's he had brought. After the lecture, which moved all of us, we went to the cafeteria where long tables were filled with relics. There was a piece of Mary's veil, a tiny bit of the cross which held Jesus for three hours, and the lance which pierced his side. I was looking for St. Kateri (Tekakwitha.) since I wanted her for my confirmation saint. When I found her, I kissed the relic and then walked off to find other saint's which I loved. Suddenly, I turned right around again and spent quite sometime meditating on St. Katiri's relic. I walked away again. Came back. This happened about three or four times. I now am more sure of myself that Kateri is going to be my Confirmation name. She was like a magnet, drawing me towards her, just as Mary, Our Mother has done with so many souls. Now for Catechism! I have often wondered why God took the trouble to make us. He could have had quite a bit more fun it just being himself and the angels, couldn't he? Well, I was reading Youcat on Saturday night pondering about it. I am really trying to learn my Catechism, since I want to be prepared for Confirmation, you know, and also, A true daughter of Christ must be faithful to the faith, right? I found out suddenly in my head, after reading the answer in YouCat (a catechism for youth). God is Love itself! Can you believe that?(Is God really a big red heart?)What if we had a God of no love, of Hatefulness, and Cruelty. What if he was like the priest that passed the wounded man, his sores left open until the Good Samaritan came and showed him God's Love. Wouldn't that be just awful! We would be left of the dusty road to shrivel up into nothingness, to die, while God looked on. But he IS a God of Love! That is why he made us, out of everlasting love! He thought we were that important in Life, He even had his Son die for us, out of love. Intense Love, Sacrificing love...

dear diary,

I have quite a bit to tell you, about our weekend. It was a blast! On Saturday there came the wonderful morning blackberry picking in our yard, since we were all for having a blackberry crisp for supper. I brought the little ones down and set them in our plastic kitty pool, with a sleeping bag and some blackberries to get their attention. The other boys, Clem, Eph, and Zac were busy pushing thru the rainforest of brambles, eating the choicest(and plumpest)berries that came their way. I was quickly snatching a mix of red, green and black berries in order to keep the little ones supplied , and I wasn't worried about my own supply of blackberries since we had collected a leftover dish full the other evening. After our morning expedition, I, Essie and Abe went back to the house, where I finished the chores. It was to be another Saturday! ON our spacey porch, we had made a highway out of our homemade benches, with Eph as policeman on the tricycle. AS the sun grew hot and the day sweltering we moved back inside for a lunch of Rueben's and chips. We had quite time, where we rest in our beds and read Highlights, or books. Then Mom and me filled up the kitty pool. We certainly made a splash in our backyard! Me, Essie, Abe, Eph, and Zac wading around in circles while the little ones bent their knees and shouted with happiness. I finally got to sit down with Abel crowing on my lap as a made little waves that washed over his bare chubby legs. Sunday. I woke up to the sun streaming down upon me and Essie, we share a room.
After breakfast, we all started to get ready for Mass. I took the curling iron down to our room, and when we went to church, Essie looked like one of those nice little girls in the roaring twenties! After Mass and doughnuts we went back home and got ready for Grandma and Grandpa to babysit us, while Mom and Dad went out. It was a lot of fun! Grandpa and Grandma brought along some movies and the nutella, along with other necessities. So we spent a cozy afternoon watching the Muppets, and The Lord of the Beans. I put the chicken in the oven for supper and we were all set for an awesome afternoon and evening!

Busy Bee School

In the morning, when I am feeling great, inspired, and have lots of energy, me and the little ones have what we call, "Busy Bee School". Basically, it is a time for crafts, and learning something really easy, like how apples taste, what bees do, that sort of thing which is easy for the little ones to understand. This morning, when we just started on the craft of making flowers, by tracing our hands, cutting them out, and putting scraps of paper on contact paper to cover the flower with, Grandpa came! So it sort-of was like an open house, since I told him what we were doing, and he also ended up with a little hand flower! I want to take this post as a right time to tell you all the crafts that we have made in Busy Bee school, we just started in January. In January we designed maps of different countries since we were studying about the great explorers with the older kids. In February, Dad got lots of fun homemade cards, and we also made paper bee mobiles. In March, there came paper bag owls, puppets for Parents night. April came weather clocks which we hun on doorknobs everywhere!
May was the trip to the craft center, where we made all those crafts, ranging from Picaso portraits, to paper plate butterflies. June brought paper crowns, pipe cleaner aliens, and nature walks, we brought in all our findings and had a nature vase/area. July has brought us Coke can bird houses, paintings with only two colors, red and yellow. And now these flowers! Am I a good big sister, or what?

A Good Use For Critters

This is a good way to use worn out "Calico Critters"...make a slow-motion! Clem used to make these with a little ball of plasticine with nails for eyes, called, "Dred Salvage". This little clip was made by me in the summer of 2013. Its pretty fast, you'll have to watch it several times before you can capture what they are all doing! Wish it was slower.

Once Upon a Six-Year Old...

I promised my little brother, Zac that I would write a post about him for his sixth birthday. He was very exited, which made it an easy present to give to him from me, since all I had were three rubber band bracelets, my creativity needed an extra match(to fire it up, if you are puzzled with my pun), since it was sizzling. And so here it is! I'm going to name the classic and awesome 6 things that I like about him, for what we did that was special, and 6 words that describe what he felt on that 9th day of July. That'll make it eighteen. Can you read all that? I Love Zachary because... 1. He has really good ideas. 2. He is really (cute, sorry Zac, I have to say this!)Cool. 3. He has a wise expression, for six. 4. He was my third brother, before I ever had a little sister. 5. He loves Popeye the most of any Saturday morning cartoons. 6. He is loving to his younger siblings, and really makes life fun! On his Birthday, We did... 1. Had cereal, He chose Blueberry Toast. 2. Went to Mass,to offer up the day for him. 3. Had a water balloon, and marshmallow pop-gun fight in the backyard. 4. Got into the car for the big surprise. 5. Arrived at our favorite, Pietro's Pizza! 6. Had a surprise birthday party, with dinosaur cupcakes, presents, and cousins. He was... 1. Exited! 2. Awesome! 3. Sharing! 4. Kind! 5. Cool, and Composed. 6. Very, Very, Grateful.
Thats him in the middle, age 5. Still have to get more photo's of his birthday, we forgot the Kodak!

Just Me again

Me with the Kodak. (Isn't summer soooo much fun? I'm really enjoying mine.)

Summer Lanterns

The Summer Lantern, above, is such a simple craft that you can do it in minutes! It looks really pretty and artistic if strung on a gazebo, or a porch. What you need: Scissors, Tissue paper, hole-punch, and pipe-cleaners(yarn and string would do just as well). 1. Fold the T paper in half. 2. Cut 1 inch strips, almost through the paper, along the folded side. 3. After you are finished, connect the the other side of the paper, and hole-punch both sides. 4. Then, stick the pipe-cleaner thru the holes and twine it around to make a P-cleaner circle. Hang it in the window, Or on the porch. My version is cut at the bottom to make it like an octopus, since you really can't have a candle in it. It really makes the house look festive and COOL! Anybody can do this, so set your creativity on fire!

Last Of The June

Can you really believe that it is the last of June? It seems as if the month really should be May with our little rainstorms we've had last week. That wasn't expected. But now the sun is out and June is changing places with hot July. (Tomorrow is Canada Day, and we have the face paint, and the cheers ready! We are going to paint maple leafs, stars and such on our faces, and then we are going to spray our hair red! I'll post a picture of the results.) In this post, I suppose I really should have an advice-y post, since I haven't written one in soooo long! Do you mind? I've done quite a bit of summer advice, and I suppose I must redo the little mistakes, but I've some really good ideas that weren't ever posted and so here it goes: 1. Get a large glass of root-beer. Beforehand, in your ice-cube trays freeze some ice cream and so they are like cubes! If you want you can also cover them with caramel. Then after taking them out, (with probably difficulty), dump them into the root-beer, go outside into an outside chair and sip.
You can do the same thing with cream soda, fruit juice, chocolate milk and milk ice-cubes, and more combinations. 2. Turn the sprinklers on, set up a pool in the middle, and have a pleasure dip, with the sprinklers spraying on you hot cheeks. Its also quite a lot of fun! 3.GO TO THE BEACH and really, truly go into the ocean. Lots of people avoid going in because of the cold, but on a broiling hot day, when you can bake cookies of the sidewalk, just do it! 4.If you have a spare room in the house, and the air conditioning is on full blast, retreat to the spot and lie down with a novel. And think. (I sometimes go with a composition book to write down any brainstorms for a new book. ) I hope you think this little bit of advice will do you could in the heat of the weary day in summer. I feel like a root-beer...Avi

Rabbits For $ale

I suppose you must be curious on how our animals have been doing ever since my last post which I gave you a brief description. Midnight died this month, with a bunny. We think it was pneumonia after much research. After taking the other bunnies in, we nursed them back to a healthy state and thank goodness, they are doing very well!
I wanted to show you our bigger bunnies that were born in February on the 2nd. We are selling them, for NOW $15.00 so if you are interested...they are CA Giant/Dutch mini Lop, meat is exceptional, really good pets, very sweet with children, adorable. Please consider.
Papa: above. We are selling a large male CA Giant as well for $20. Meat rabbit, and is very fat! If you are considering, just comment.

Novels That Flourish

Lately, I've been reading quite a bit of Louisa May Alcott, I just finished reading An Old Fashioned Girl for the fifth time and found some parts that didn't really agree with me, how in the first part she is such an example of virtue, and in the second part, she puts on little airs, falls in love, flirts, and is a much different character than the one I knew and loved before. When I read over, I was rather shocked at her behavior, Why must she change? Isn't she already Nice? Why must she flirt and put on airs? These questions went thru my mind as I read the page. Why must we change, if we're already what we vision ourselves? As we are getting older we come to halt upon this question. I have found a drastic change in myself as a 12 year old girl. Why must I change? My answer to myself was this: Isn't our life a novel, that must flourish? In the Novel, characters change, from Boy to Man, From Girl to Woman. Their life either becomes colorful, or sad, depending on the story. It is just like the Nature Cycle. First an egg, then a chick, than a pullet and finally a chicken, or, First a baby, then a toddler, than a little person, a big kid, a youth, an adult, and finally an old-timer. And it starts spinning around again. (You are probably puzzled, my explanation should really be perfected, and I'd disgrace a professor horribly, but I hope you'll understand. You are probably a smarter person than me, and know all this, but I would just love to write these down where they would stay where I could reread them.) You have probably listened to an old story from a friend or a family member, and are fascinated with their adventures. That is what I call a Flourishing Novel that is still going on. And I hope that with all these novel's going around, one might be able to help, and edit, so that it shall become a remembered a dearly loved volume of Fascination!
The Novel Shall last forever!

A Saint's Description

My Soul rests in His glorious Mercy, bathed in his deep love for me! My Soul walks in His footsteps, I never stray. His Path is my Life! My Soul tells Him of my seemingly everlasting troubles, He comforts me till I am comforted. My Soul feels deeply His countless wounds, the Blood He shed, The tears and the Agony rest in my heart forever! I now understand his deep message, which He was sent to deliver! (Just to let you know, this was not written by me, but by something else. It just came up on my composition page while I was writing so in a way it is written by me. I was inspired by reading The Way Of Perfection By St. Teresa Of Avila.)

June Doings

Its finally June! Finally Summer! Finally! (I suppose I am exited since May has just been dragging along at a snails pace it seems.) I am sure that you all are very relived that May is over. It seemed so uneasily stressful this year, maybe I am growing up to my full 12 years finally, what with the spring recital, turning the big 12, a few more birthdays to celebrate, and new birthday resolutions that one is trying to live up to. Abe is turning two this month, it seems so crazy that such a big/little boy has only been with us for almost two years! He can now say full sentences("Oh man," "Thats cool," and "Your mean," at any given time.) He can walk, roar like a lion at some occasions, and call for water("Ouse.") He is such a character isn't he? Me and Mom went out for a mother/daughter outing, and drove to Value Village (valOO villAGE), I was looking for brown yarn to start crocheting a little tree, stay tuned, and Mom was just looking around and we ended up with two boxes of stationary, a tin, three books, glass bear figurines, three balls of yarn, barely used, and three china plates(we'll see if they last in a family of 8 with 6 kids). We ended it with a Hot-fudge-sundae-in-a-waffle bowl, with whipped cream, and sprinkles. It was heavenly!
A few weeks ago, we went to the Portland Zoo, right before Memorial day and so I have some pictures I'd love to share with you! Here is Abe right in front of the rhino wallow, he's blocking the rhino, unfortunately.
My favorite Gazelle is in front of the tree of the tree, she is so beautiful!
Its not really Abie's day.
